Frequently Asked Questions

Everything homeowners should know about standby generator installation, backup power, and what to expect from the process.

What size generator do I need for my home?

The right generator size depends on your home’s electrical load, the systems you want to keep powered, and your backup power goals. We evaluate your electrical service and essential loads to recommend the right generator capacity for your home.

How long does generator installation take?

Installation time depends on the generator location, electrical work required, transfer equipment, permitting, inspections, and site conditions. After evaluating your home, we’ll provide a clear project scope and expected installation timeline.

Will a standby generator power my entire home during an outage?

It can, depending on the generator size, your home’s electrical demand, and the system design. We can plan for whole-home backup or prioritize essential circuits such as refrigeration, lighting, HVAC, Wi-Fi, and other critical loads.

Where can a standby generator be installed?

Generator placement depends on your property layout, equipment requirements, clearances, access, fuel connection, and applicable local codes. We evaluate the site and recommend a practical, code-compliant location for the system.

Do I need permits for generator installation?

Permitting requirements vary by project and jurisdiction. When permits and inspections are required, we coordinate the applicable electrical requirements as part of the installation process.

How often does a standby generator need maintenance?

Standby generators require periodic maintenance to remain ready for an outage. Service intervals depend on the generator model, operating hours, and manufacturer recommendations. Regular inspection and maintenance help support reliable long-term operation.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I reached out to Quantum Thunder and a few other electricians about my need for an EV charger installed at my house. Andrei was extremely quick in replying, gave a great quote, and was up-front on expectations, costs, etc. The others I reached out to either needed over a week to quote me, refused to permit the work, or threw numbers at me that had no basis in reality. On install day, he was on time, extremely friendly, and did a quick and very clean job. No issues whatsoever during the install and he was appreciative of the work. I charged my car that night.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Quantum Thunder Electric did an outstanding job, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Andrei installed my Level 2 EV charger and the entire experience was smooth from start to finish.

The work itself is top-tier: a clean conduit run, a dedicated 240V circuit with a new breaker, proper grounding, and a tidy, weatherproof finish. Everything was done quickly without cutting any corners.

Andrei also handled the electrical permit and inspection coordination, so I didn't have to chase anything down. Communication was excellent the whole way through, from the initial quote to the final walkthrough.

Pricing was fair and fully transparent — no surprises. If you need an EV charger installed or any electrical work done, this is the team to call. I'd hire them again without hesitation. 5 stars!

Verified Andrei got back to me right away with a detailed estimate, and quickly came by to confirm the details and scope of work. He handled all the permit and inspection stuff which I was really worried about having to handle. I had contacted 3 different companies, and Andrei communicated quicker, gave me much more thorough estimates and info, and his price was the best. He got the bulk of the work done very quickly, and the only delays were having to wait for pre- and post-work inspections by the city. Zero complaints here - would totally work with him again.
